Tools: Pixastic Image Library

Some weeks ago, I was trying to do some image manipulations in jQuery. I tried lots of plugins and was heavily dissatisfied until I found Pixastic Library. For a library its size, it packs a lot of punch as it sports features that you can find in any heavy-duty photo editing application. The creator of the library even build a pretty sleek online photo editor based on this library. You can check it out to have a feel of what the library can do. If you are working on any application that involves sizable image processing, it might be beneficial for you to let your users’ machines do part of the heavy lifting by leveraging on Pixastic image library to process images in their...

Lokesh Colour Thief is a jQuery plugin that helps you select colours from a particular image. This tool is very useful if you are like me, and you have a challenge selecting suitable colour palettes to use in your designs. Solving Windows Folder Security Issues

Note: The initial part of this post of is filled with inanities. To get what you are looking for, go the last two paragraphs. Thank you. weeks ago, while looking for a means to save some massive work data,  a colleague (Lagbaja) gave me the external hard drive of another colleague (Tamedu). Please, don’t ask me why I am not using my own external drive, if it was working, I wouldn’t use another party’s hard drive. Thank you. Since I knew that this hard drive would be moving around different computers a lot, and Tamedu had sensitive data stored in it, I decided to lock his folder (just to provide some frustration for whoever might want to be looking where they aren’t supposed to). Earlier today, Tamedu requested for his hard drive and his...

Anger Management

Lately, I have been angry… Angry about a lot of things. Some I can discuss here, some would rather be held private. But the point is, lately, I have been walking around with a short fuse. My temper is like a bomb with a faulty timer. It can go off at any time. How did I get here? Simple. I have found it difficult to let go of my recent mistakes and failures. They get built-up in my mind. I have no way of channelling them out; no time for fun, relaxation or movies (blame Lagos traffic). The little time I have is spent on executing personal projects. Time meant to be spent reflecting on ideas is spent musing on the pains of yesterday. So, what was the final straw? I still haven’t been able to lay my hands on this one. Sometimes, I feel like my anger...

Lagos’ Open Markets

Quite recently, I have been spending lots of time in open markets around Lagos carrying out one form of research or the other. From Oke Arin, Bariga, Ketu, Mushin, Iyana Ipaja to Ikotun, they all share the same characteristic: dirty, disorganized and very dirty. In every market you visit, the same scenario plays out: A sweaty trader is seated in one corner of her shop which is cramped from top to bottom with goods. The only space that is available for movement has been occupied by the trader. In some cases, her son or daughter is eating coloured rice on the makeshift wooden slab that covers the gutter. Outside the shop, she puts the majority of her products so that they can compete for as much space as possible. In other cases, retailers line up in front of her...

Give your consumers the bones!

Sometimes last year, I offered my little cousin grilled fish. You know, the kinda grilled fish you only get in Abuja parks with all the spices and orishishi added to guarantee maximum mouth watering delight. Anybody would have thought any boy in the world would jump right at it and start devouring it before you even offer it. Yes, you can guess what happened. He said, “I don’t want the fish”. “So, what do you want?”, I replied… getting surprised. “All I want is the bone.”, he retorted in mild defiance. Ridiculous as it sounded, I removed the bone, gave it to him, and ate my fish whilst thinking about the correlation of what had just happened with the subject of consumer want in the world of business. There are times...

2011 Plans

To be sincere, I really don’t have plans for this year. I have been making plans over the past few years and I have since realized that the amount of time I spend regretting when those plans fail would have been better spent praising the almighty for those other good things that happened in my life. Therefore, my plan this year is not to have a plan. I just want to do stuff and see how everything pans out. So help me God.
